Activities
The Club engages in other social activities beyond our regular Club Nights; most commonly our members attend many of the regular swimming carnivals within the region. This is seen as a logical extension and a culmination of their swimming skills being put into practice in an authentic competitive arena.
We also have our end-of-season Break-up and Prize-giving, which is always a "rewarding" outcome for all the members' efforts. We also try to include our fundraising 'Aquathon' sponsored swim on one of our club nights each year - then we also have a bit of a party atmosphere at Christmas and Easter times - with a "Surprise-Santa" and some gift-giving.
Each Club night is a carefully worked-out schedule of varied swim events, focussing on the four strokes over a variety of distances, for different abilities. We stage noodle and kick-board races in our heated undercover 18m pool for the littlies (our Dolphin Members).
We also hold raffles occasionally with a variety of different prizes to be won. We have a kitchen roster for parents to volunteer their time preparing and serving up just a basic hot dish that varies each week, and for this service, their week's subscription payment is waived.
Older kids can swim most standard distances in all strokes, win our monthly Series Award Certificates, become recognised for their achievements under the National JX Awards program, and take part in other affiliated pool activities.
Young Members (kids aged 7 or under at time of sign-on) can take part in our fun noodle and kick-board races in the heated undercover 18m pool. They can advance to longer distances in the main pool when ready to do so.

Carnival Information
Cairns Stingrays members are encouraged to compete at carnivals throughout the region. This season’s FNQ Carnival Calendar is included - see the Calendar page.An adult must stay at carnivals with your child and be available to help out with timekeeping. It is essential all families help with timekeeping at all carnivals they attend as timeslots are allocated in proportion to the number of swimmers that have nominated from the club.Information ‘Flyers’ for each upcoming Carnival will be made available on the Stingrays noticeboard at the pool and distributed directly to members' email addresses.
Nominating your child for carnivals is now an online process involving logging into Swimming Australia's Swim Central management system where the whole process is handled including payment. This is a newly rolled-out system and may require a little bit of getting used to at first - if you need assistance please ask Alice to guide you through.
The principal family member will be set up as the primary entity who will be required to log in using details provided when they first joined the club, and submit a PIN. You will then need to 'unlock' your identity in order to access and modify your dependents.
Important points for carnival nominations: No nominations will be accepted after the closing date displayed on the flyer. All nominating is the responsibility of each family, as well as handling payment. Please do not nominate for a carnival if you do not intend to go as the club job roster (eg for timekeeping) is based on the number of swimmers who have nominated not necessarily the number who attend. Before nominating for events at carnivals, please speak with your coach about suitability for the events you wish your child/ren to race in.
